Skynet Country was born out of necessity and a passion for community. In 2005, a local husband-and-wife team moved to the Gladewater area to enjoy their retirement – only to discover that high-quality internet was practically nonexistent in rural East Texas. Determined to solve this problem not just for themselves but for their neighbors, they poured their retirement savings into starting a new kind of internet company right here at home. What began as one family’s mission to get online quickly grew into a community-wide effort to bring reliable connectivity to our corner of Texas.
From day one, our founders understood the challenge: big telecom providers weren’t interested in sparsely populated areas where the “business equation” didn’t guarantee huge profits. But we knew our friends and neighbors deserved better. Skynet Country was built as a reliable, affordable, quality solution to the dilemma of poor rural internet. We started with a single tower and a handful of customers, and have been steadily expanding ever since – one hill, one home, one business at a time. Nearly two decades later, we’re still family-owned, still based in East Texas, and still driven by the belief that we are our customers.
